We are delighted to announce that Matica Group has joined the Fairwork initiative. This project certifies best employment practices in the gig economy coordinated by the Oxford Internet Institute-University of Oxford and the Berlin Social Science Center.

The Changing Landscape of Work

The reality of work is changing. Millions of people find work through the platform economy. Remote work is here to stay. These technologies can generate new job opportunities and improve productivity, but can also generate negative outcomes like job insecurity, lower pay, and dangerous working conditions.

The Fairwork project evaluates working conditions on digital platforms against five principles of fair work:

  • 1. Fair pay
  • 2. Fair conditions
  • 3. Fair contract
  • 4. Fair management
  • 5. Fair representation

Fairwork’s Mission

Fairwork addresses these new workforce challenges by:

  • 1. Location-based platform work ratings: evaluation of digital platform working conditions and ranking based on principles of fair platform work. Fairwork produces national rankings in 38 countries across 5 continents. These ratings include location-based platforms in sectors like food delivery, ride-hailing, domestic work, beauty services and more.
  • 2. Cloudwork ratings: Cloudwork is work that can be performed online from anywhere in the world. This includes small tasks like filling in surveys and training AI systems, to freelance services like translation, web development or design. Fairwork rates conditions on major global cloud work platforms in line with principles of fair online work.
  • 3. Fairwork AI: Through in-depth case study research and application of safe AI Principles, evaluation is made of conditions of those who perform work and interaction critical to AI systems.
